Hi everybody! When I’m not working on Racebending, I’m a grad student at UCLA where my colleagues/friends and I are currently researching the wellness outcomes of LGBTQ Asian Pacific Americans! (See above video for more details.)

To begin to answer those questions, we’ve initiated this online survey of LGBTQ folks working in STEM. If you’re queer, have completed at least a bachelor’s or technical degree, and are working in STEM in any capacity — grad school, the tenure track, corporate R&D, the nonprofit sector, or science communication — we want to hear from you, and we need your help to collect a comprehensive sample.

Okay, so I’ve been posting about a certain someone’s Kickstarter quite a bit recently while otherwise neglecting this blog (finals are over, so I shall return this week). I rarely, if ever, endorse anything on this blog, but I truly believe that Joshua Dent deserves to make this album. I only have a glimmer of understanding of how it is to be a professional cellist, but I do believe that if there is no fraternity in music, then it cannot be made.

In this spirit, I ask you to at least check out this page, watch the video, as well as music samples, and share all of these things with friends/family/followers even if you cannot/do not contribute! His music is really phenomenal and inspiring, and he’s an excellent person of character. I really want to see him succeed in this. The page has six days left and I believe that he can make it.

I have a little less bad news than usual to report!

My dad is still doing about as well as he can be right now. He had a doctor’s appointment a few days ago, and he reported the same thing about his cancer. It’s still present and spreading, and it’s not treatable. It’s been hard as usual. However, we’ve had a lot of support lately; it’s been really great despite the situation.

Anyway, I mentioned a while back that I was struggling to get enough money for my last semester of college. I was still $2862.09 away from my goal.

I’m happy to report that I finally caught a break and got a grant for $1,400!

Now, I’m only $1,462.09 away from my goal!

I still have until the last week of May to come up with the amount, so I’m hoping you all can help me. If you can donate, please click the link above or the ‘donate’ button in my ‘about’. Any amount helps! If you can’t donate, that’s okay, but please reblog and signal boost this!

A transgender woman was stabbed repeatedly and dumped into a pond tied to a block of concrete in Cleveland, Ohio.

Only known by her birth given name, Carl Acoff, police announced yesterday they had identified her body after she went missing a month earlier on 27 March.

The 20-year-old was found three weeks later naked from the waist down with multiple wounds.

The man who found her initially believed the body was a mannequin, and contacted police who checked their missing persons list.

In the past, Acoff had clashed with police and the courts over her wish to be treated as a woman.

In January 2012, a judge found her guilty of possessing dangerous drugs after Acoff pleaded no contest.

These drugs included hormones used to boost estrogen in women. She was fined $1000 and sentenced to 100 days in jail.

There are no words.

So the bank I got a student loan from has a really shitty policy whereby if you miss a payment, you have to make a payment in order to get any kind of deferment (stopping payments for a while), even if it’s an economic hardship deferment.

In order for me to stop the payments, I will have to make a $202 (USD) payment first. I don’t have $202 (I have no income), my co-signer does not have $202, and I really do not want to default on this loan.

Please help? (Donation link here. I bet most people reading this can give at least $1.)

p.s. Wells Fargo is a terrible bank; never get a loan from them if you can help it.
